KNON 89.3 FM: the station this page grew up listening to
The original sdelic.org was a listener's homepage: the bootleg tape list trades Grateful Dead and Phish shows, and the links page pointed at KNON's shows from day one. This page keeps the station's story as the site told it in 2001 — and states what the record shows today.
As written in 2001
Here in Dallas/Ft. Worth we have a cool Public Radio Station at KNON 89.3FM running at 50,000 watts strong!… this radio station was started in the 1970's by a group of hipsters in Dallas. This lasted until it was sold to ACORN where it is housed today. If you're within listener range be sure to give them your support — it's a one of a kind, as you can hear all kinds of music and shows during the week. Jazz, Metal, Dead, you name it!
— the sdelic.org links page, 2001 (archived as it shipped). The date and the ACORN line below are the era's claims, not verified history.
What the record shows today
KNON first aired on August 6, 1983, and it is owned by the Agape Broadcasting Foundation, a non-profit. It is community radio in the full sense: listener-supported through pledge drives and underwriting, programmed largely by volunteer DJs, on air 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The 2001 quote above says the station was "sold to ACORN" — the ownership record shows Agape has held the license since the beginning, so that line stays in the quotation and out of the facts.
In 2026 the station is still on the air at knon.org ↗.
